Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur (I used Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao)
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • ½ ounce agave syrup
  • margarita salt (optional)
  • blood orange slice (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the margarita glass with salt by placing agave syrup or lime juice on the rim of the glass and then dipping the top of the glass in the margarita salt. Fill the glass with fresh ice and set it aside.
  • Add more fresh ice to the cocktail shaker along with the tequila, orange liqueur, blood orange juice, lime juice, and agave syrup. Place the top on the shaker and shake for 10-12 seconds until nice and cold.
  • Double strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a slice of blood orange and enjoy. Cheers!

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed juice from ripe blood oranges and limes for the best results.
  • The choice of tequila significantly influences the overall taste of the margarita, but you can use any tequila you prefer. While good quality is best, you don't have to use the most expensive tequila, reserve those for sipping.
  • Use margarita salt or coarse kosher salt for rimming the glass. To enhance the rim, moisten it with agave syrup or a blood orange wedge before dipping it in the salt.
  • Always serve the margarita over fresh ice to maintain its fresh quality.
  • Try out different rim options such as a mixture of salt and chili powder for a spicy kick.
