Notes
If you can find fresh, ripe passion fruit, you can make your own puree. You will need at least 2 to 3 passion fruits for this cocktail.
Cut each passion fruit in half and dig out the middle with a spoon. Stir the pulp and then use a mesh strainer to remove the seeds. You can also use your spoon to lightly press on the pulp to get all of the goodies you want through the sieve.
If you buy frozen passion fruit, let it thaw in the fridge or on the countertop. If there are chunks of fruit, give it a quick zip in a food processor or blender.
This cocktail is also widely known as a Pornstar Martini, a popular drink that first became a hit in the 2000s and remains a favorite at bars and parties today.
Vodka can be swapped easily. Regular or citrus vodka both work well in place of vanilla vodka. Since vanilla vodka tends to be sweeter, add a little extra simple syrup if using an unflavored vodka.
Orange curaçao is used here, but triple sec or Grand Marnier will work as well.
Simple syrup or agave syrup both work well to sweeten this cocktail. For a flavor twist, try Orgeat Syrup or Rich Demerara Syrup instead.
For the classic bar-style presentation, top the finished cocktail with a splash of Prosecco, or serve a small shot of Prosecco on the side to sip between bites of the passion fruit garnish.
Want to make it a mocktail? Omit the vodka and orange liqueur, and use a splash of sparkling water or ginger ale in place of any Prosecco.
This recipe doesn't include Prosecco, so you can mix all of the ingredients together in a pitcher ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to serve. Shake with ice and strain into glasses just before your guests arrive so the drink stays cold and fresh. If adding Prosecco, wait to add it until just before serving so it stays bubbly.
