Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups demerara sugar

Instructions

  • Place the sugar and water into a saucepan over low-medium heat. Allow the sugar to dissolve completely while stirring constantly.
  • Once the sugar has completely dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool.
  • Pout the syrup into a sealable jar or bottle and enjoy!

Notes

    • This syrup will last about 2 weeks when stored in the fridge in a sealed container. To prolong that shelf life, add a splash of vodka or Everclear and the syrup will last an additional 1-2 weeks.
    • Make sure the heat is low-medium to ensure the sugar fully dissolves but it does not come to a boil. Stir continuously to expedite the process without caramelizing the sugar
    • The short simmering time enhances the depth of flavor without making the syrup too thick or overly concentrated.
    • Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before transferring it to a storage container. This allows the flavors to intensify, contributing to the syrup's overall richness.
    • Use a sealable container to store the syrup like a jar with a lid or a sealable bottle.
