Place all of the ingredients into a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir and mash the berries with a masher. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn down the heat to medium and cook for an additional 2 minutes while stirring occasionally.
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to steep as it cools for at least 1 hour. Strain the solids from the liquid using a fine-mesh sieve, you can save the solids for another treat!
Pour the syrup into a sealable bottle or jar and store it in the fridge. The syrup will last in the fridge in a sealed container for 3-4 weeks.
Notes
Allow the syrup to cool completely before pouring it into a sealable bottle or jar. Store the syrup in the fridge.
This homemade syrup will last in the fridge in a sealed container for 3-4 weeks. You can also freeze this syrup in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
If you want a thicker consistency closer to maple syrup, you can make a slurry of 1 tablespoon of water and ½ tablespoon of cornstarch. Whisk the two ingredients together in a small bowl and then stir them into the mixture after cooking.
