Why I Love This Recipe
This Blueberry Simple Syrup is so easy to make and has so many uses just like my Peach Syrup and my Huckleberry Syrup. The best part is that you can make this homemade syrup from fresh or frozen blueberries!
Ingredients Needed to Make Blueberry Simple Syrup
You only need three ingredients to make your own blueberry simple syrup at home: blueberries, sugar, and water. One of the best things about this recipe is that you can use fresh or frozen blueberries!
How to Make Homemade Blueberry Syrup
Place all of the ingredients into a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir and mash the berries with a masher. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn down the heat to medium and cook for an additional 2 minutes while stirring occasionally.
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to steep as it cools for at least 1 hour. Strain the solids from the liquid using a fine-mesh sieve you can save the solids for another treat!).
How to Store Homemade Simple Syrup
Allow the syrup to cool completely before pouring it into a sealable bottle or jar. Store the syrup in the fridge.
How long will homemade syrup last?
This homemade syrup will last in the fridge in a sealed container for 3-4 weeks. You can also freeze this syrup in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
How to Make This Syrup Thicker
If you want a thicker consistency closer to maple syrup, you can make a slurry of 1 tablespoon of water and ½ tablespoon of cornstarch. Whisk the two ingredients together in a small bowl and then stir them into the mixture after cooking.
What to Do with Blueberry Syrup?
This syrup has so many uses. You can make a cocktail like this Blueberry Gin and Tonic pictured above. You can also pour this syrup over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream. And for a cold and refreshing drink, make a Blueberry Italian Soda!
