Cinnamon Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  • Place the water and cinnamon sticks in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the cinnamon sticks and add the sugar. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil again. Boil for 2 minutes and then remove from the heat.
  • Allow the syrup to cool before placing it in a sealable bottle or jar. Store the syrup in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.

Notes

  • Don't toss those cinnamon sticks that are removed after boiling. They can be used for teas, ciders, and more! 
  • This recipe is a small batch recipe so you won't end up with a huge amount of syrup. However, if you want to make more, this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
  • You can use ground cinnamon to make a simple syrup, however, not all of the ground cinnamon will be strained out of the mixture. Just substitute the cinnamon sticks with 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
