Why I Love This Recipe
These Kitchen Sink Cookies are so delicious and fun to make just like my Easy Cake Bites! It's a great excuse to clean out your pantry or get rid of the bits and pieces of things you have left over from other dishes like these Reindeer Cake Pops that use just a few pretzels.
These come together in less than 30 minutes like my Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats. and are easy to adapt to what you like or have. Have fun making the best combination you can from what you have in your kitchen!
What are Kitchen Sink Cookies?
Kitchen Sink Cookies are basically traditional chocolate chip cookies with extra ingredients added in to make them even better! You can create a delicious mix of sweet, salty, crunchy, chewy, etc. in every bite! Everything but the kitchen sink!?!
Save Those Crumbs
I hate to waste food and I try to use every bit of what I have in my kitchen which is why I created my Carrot Leaf Pesto recipe. If a bag of pretzels, chips, or trail mix is down to the end, I stash them in the freezer. When it's time to make some cookies, I just dump the bag of treats into the mix. Never waste those crumbs again!
Step by Step Instructions
Mix the dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls and then combine them together. Add in the extra goodies and stir to mix in.
Use a cookie scoop or spoon and place the dough on a lined cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cookies start to brown around the edges.
Remove the cookies from the oven and place them on a cooling rack. If you are adding flaked salt to the top, add it right after the cookies come out of the oven so that the salt sticks to the top of the cookie.
What's the secret ingredient?
My secret ingredient is ground cinnamon. It adds a little warmth and extra spice that plays perfectly with all of the other flavors in these cookies.
Expert Tips For This Cookie Recipe
- Don't overmix the dough! This will ensure the cookies are nice and fluffy and soft. Unless you like crispy, flat cookies stick to mixing by hand just until everything is combined.
- Take the cookies out of the oven when the middle is just a little soft. Don't worry, the middle will bake completely when the cookies are cooling but this will also ensure your cookies are nice and soft.
- If you are adding really salty things like pretzels or potato chips, you may want to skip the addition of salt to the dough.
Recipe FAQs
This recipe can easily be adapted and changed to your liking or to whatever ingredients you happen to have in your pantry like mini marshmallows, potato chips, crushed graham crackers, coconut flakes, dried fruit, oatmeal, or rice cereal.
You can substitute more applesauce or softened bananas in place of the eggs in this recipe. If you use bananas, your cookies will have a pronounced banana flavor.
If you don't have applesauce, you can use all butter in its place. So you would be adding about ⅔ cup softened butter. This will ensure your cookies are still moist and fluffy.

Kitchen Sink Cookies
Equipment
- silicone mat or parchment paper
- cookie scoop or large spoon
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt (optional, depends on how salty your add-ins are)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup butter, room temp
- ⅓ cup applesauce
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate)
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- ½ cup trail mix (or chopped nuts)
- ½ cup pretzles, chopped
- flaked salt for the top after baking (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and prepare cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Combine the flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon in a bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl add the sugars, butter, and applesauce and stir together. Then add the beaten eggs and continue to combine the wet ingredients.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and fully combine. Then, add the rest of the goodies and stir to mix in.
- Use a cookie scoop or spoon and place the dough on your cookie sheet. Make sure you leave room for them to spread. I was able to fit 6 balls/sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cookies start to brown around the edges.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and place them on a cooling rack. If you are adding flaked salt to the top, add it right after they come out of the oven so that the salt sticks to the top of the cookie.
Notes
- Don't overmix the dough! This will ensure the cookies are nice and fluffy and soft. Unless you like crispy, flat cookies stick to mixing by hand just until everything is combined.
- Take the cookies out of the oven when the middle is just a little soft. Don't worry, the middle will bake completely when the cookies are cooling but this will also ensure your cookies are nice and soft.
- If you are adding really salty things like pretzels or potato chips, you may want to skip the addition of salt to the dough.
- I also used a little bit of the dough to make a cast-iron skillet cookie for 2! It bakes for about 20-22 minutes using a 6" pan. Delicious!
