What is Dalgona Coffee?
Unless you missed 2020 trending recipes on the internet or in the news, you have probably heard of Dalgona Coffee. Basically, dalgona coffee is a drink made with whipped coffee from instant espresso/coffee (or in this case, a liquid coffee concentrate), sugar, and water and added on top of cold or hot milk.
It is a South Korean recipe that anyone who is anyone has tried. And if you haven't, I hope you will now. Dalgona is the Korean word for sponge toffee, a sugary sweet candy that was popular in the '90s in Korea.
How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Whipped Coffee
Add the espresso powder or coffee concentrate, boiling water, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice to a medium mixing bowl.
Whisk with a hand blender, immersion blender, or hand whisk. Continue whisking until you get a nice foamy mixture, this takes 3-4 minutes.
Add fresh ice to a glass and pour in the milk.
Top the glass with the whipped coffee mixture and enjoy!
Expert Tips for Making Dalgona Coffee
- If you don't have a liquid coffee concentrate at home, you can still make this whipped coffee! Just substitute 2 tablespoons of powdered instant espresso or instant coffee.
- As I mentioned, I only used one of my hand mixer whisk attachments to whip up my coffee foam. Since this is a single serving, there isn't much liquid in the beginning and I found it worked great.
- The dalgona foam will keep in the fridge for a day or two but will become watery after a few days. I never have leftovers...but just in case!

I used this coffee cup for my whipped coffee all the time. In my photos, I took off the band but I love this cup. It's sturdy, the perfect size, and just like that bowl, it's easy to clean. No coffee stain on this one!
