The Dalgona Coffee method continues to be popular, probably because it's so easy to "whip" up and tastes amazing. This Pumpkin Spice Whipped Coffee will satisfy your fall spice cravings at home and become one of your favorite drinks to make.
How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Whipped Coffee
- Add the espresso powder or coffee concentrate, boiling water, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice to a medium mixing bowl. Whisk with a hand blender, immersion blender, or hand whisk. Continue whisking until you get a nice foamy mixture, this takes 3-4 minutes.
- Add fresh ice to a glass and pour in the milk.
- Top the glass with the whipped coffee mixture and enjoy!
What is Dalgona Coffee?
Unless you missed 2020 trending recipes on the internet or in the news, you have probably heard of Dalgona Coffee. Basically, dalgona coffee is a drink made with whipped coffee from instant espresso/coffee (or in this case, a liquid coffee concentrate), sugar, and water and added to the top of cold or hot milk.
It is a South Korean recipe that anyone who is anyone has tried. And if you haven't, I hope you will now 🙂. Dalgona is the Korean word for sponge toffee, a sugary sweet candy that was popular in the '90s in Korea.
The candy is harder to find now, but the coffee was named after the candy because of the taste and color. There isn't actually candy in the coffee.
Tips for Making Dalgona Coffee
- If you don't have a liquid coffee concentrate at home, you can still make this whipped coffee! Just substitute 2 tablespoons of powdered instant espresso or instant coffee (it has to be instant, regular coffee grounds will not work).
- As I mentioned, I only used one of my hand mixer whisk attachments to whip up my coffee foam. Since this is a single serving, there isn't much liquid in the beginning and I found it worked great.
- You can serve this whipped coffee hot or cold. Warm your milk on the stovetop or microwave before adding the whipped topping.
- Use any milk you like including almond milk, soy milk, whole milk or skim milk.
- You can reduce the amount of sugar by half or use your favorite sugar substitute.
- The dalgona foam will keep in the fridge for a day or two but will become watery after a few days. I never have leftovers...but just in case!
What is Javy Liquid Coffee?
Javy is a liquid coffee concentrate that does not compromise flavor or quality. It is far more concentrated than regular coffee and made with 100% natural Arabica beans. One teaspoon of Javy is equal to an 8-10 oz. cup of coffee which typically has 80-100mg of caffeine.
Tools Needed to Make Pumpkin Spice Iced Coffee
Although there are a few different ways to whip up this coffee, I use my trusty Kitchenaid hand mixer. I've had this mixer for years and believe it's a must-have in any kitchen. As I mentioned, you can whip up this coffee by hand, but this mixer does all the work for you!
You will also need a medium mixing bowl to make dalgona coffee. This stainless steel bowl is perfect to avoid spatter when whipping the coffee. It's also easy to clean and works for so many recipes.
I used this coffee cup for my whipped coffee all the time. In my photos, I took off the band but I love this cup. It's sturdy, the perfect size, and just like that bowl, it's easy to clean. No coffee stain on this one!
