    gin and tonics with blueberry

There is nothing better than a refreshing cocktail on a hot day and this Blueberry Gin and Tonic is the perfect choice to fulfill that request. The sweet burst of blueberry flavor paired with gin and a little bit of lime juice is the perfect combination.

Why I Love this Blueberry Gin and Tonic

I love this cocktail because it has all of the delicious flavors of a classic gin and tonic with an added twist. Since the blueberry syrup and tonic are both sweet, the added lime juice balances out the sweetness just like in my Hibiscus Pisco Sour and my Strawberry Rhubarb Cocktail. The other thing I love about this drink is the beautiful color the blueberries add just like the color of my Blackberry Martini from the blackberries!

How to Make this Blueberry Cocktail

First, you will want to make homemade Blueberry Syrup. It's easy to do and can be made ahead of time.

Prepare a cocktail glass with ice and have your garnishes ready to go.

Add 2 ounces of gin, 1 ounce of blueberry syrup, ½ ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice, and fresh ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake until nice and cold.

Strain the mixture into the prepared cocktail glass and top with tonic. Add your garnishes and enjoy immediately.

How to Make Homemade Blueberry Syrup

Place 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries into a medium saucepan. Add ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water and stir to combine. Heat over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a boil. Turn the heat down to medium and stir while boiling for an additional 2 minutes.

Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 1 hour. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl (you can save the solids for another treat!). Store the syrup in a sealable container in the fridge until you are ready to use it.

How to Garnish this Blueberry Cocktail

Every delicious cocktail deserves a garnish and this cocktail has a few options that will put the perfect finishing touch on it. As you can see in my photos, I used a cocktail toothpick of fresh blueberry and a sprig of fresh mint for added color. You could also use a basic lime wedge or lime peel garnish.

What Gin to Use for a Gin and Tonic

A traditional Gin and Tonic Cocktail usually calls for a London dry gin. Because this drink has a fresh berry element from the blueberry syrup, you could also opt to use a botanical dry gin like Aviation Gin or Aria Gin. There are so many different varieties of gin out there and you can certainly use whatever gin you prefer.

YUM! This was an absolutely refreshing summer cocktail I can't wait to remake all season long. The blueberry syrup was so delicious but not too sweet and make this drink such a beautiful color. I just have to be careful and to have too many because they are so good!
