Why I Love This Recipe
I adore this Blueberry Lavender Cocktail for its unique and captivating flavor profile. The combination of sweet blueberries and the delicate floral notes of lavender creates a refreshing and aromatic drink that transports me to a blissful summer garden with every sip.
What is a Gin Sour Cocktail?
A "sour" is a common cocktail that has many different versions. Sours are mixed with a base liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener. Sometimes, an egg white or an egg white alternative (like aquafaba) is added for a thick and foamy finish.
A Gin Sour, of course, has gin as the main liquor. The sour comes from the lemon or lime juice and the sweetener, (usually a syrup), balances the drink.
How to Make a Blueberry Lavender Drink
Make the blueberry lavender simple syrup first. The syrup will need to cool and steep for about an hour so plan ahead. You can also make the syrup ahead of time and store it in the fridge until you are ready to mix up your cocktail.
When you are ready to shake up this cocktail, place the gin, lemon juice, and blueberry lavender syrup into a cocktail shaker with fresh ice and shake until nice and cold. Strain into your favorite cocktail glass, garnish, and enjoy!
What Gin to Use in this Cocktail
A London dry gin is called for in the classic gin sour recipe. However, with all of the different varieties out there, you can always mix it up and try something different. Tanqueray 10, Hendrick’s, and Bombay Sapphire are all good choices for a gin sour. As with most craft cocktails, the higher the quality of the gin, the better your cocktail will taste.
