Air Fryer Strawberry Turnovers
These Air Fryer Strawberry Turnovers are fun and easy to make. All you need is a pie crust, some fresh strawberries, and an air fryer and you can have these cute little pastries on your table in no time! You can also bake these hand pies in the oven.
I love strawberries and I love my air fryer so naturally, I had to make a recipe that used both. These Air Fryer Strawberry Turnovers are so cute and delicious you are going to want to make these all the time! You can make these hand-held treats with homemade pie crust or store-bought. You can also make these in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer.

Ingredients Needed to Make Air Fryer Strawberry Turnovers
- pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- fresh strawberries
- sugar
- vanilla
- lemon zest
- cornstarch
- egg
- coarse sugar for sprinkling
How to Make Strawberry Turnovers in an Air Fryer
- Roll out the pie dough 1/4″ thick. Cut out 12 dough rounds.
- Add the chopped strawberries, sugar, vanilla, lemon zest, and cornstarch to a mixing bowl and gently stir to combine. Spoon 1-2 Tbsp of filling on each round.
- Brush the edges of the round with egg wash and fold it in half. Use a fork to crimp the edges closed. Repeat with all of the rounds. Use a sharp knife to cut 3 slits in the top of the turnovers. Brush the egg wash on the top of the turnovers and sprinkle with sugar.
- Preheat the air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Place the turnovers (5-6) in the basket and air fry for 10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Which Air Fryer I Use
There are so many different types of air fryers out there now, and each one is slightly different. There are countertop air fryers, air fryer ovens, and air fryer attachments to name a few. I have the Mealthy CrispLid attachment for my Instant Pot and I love it! It fits right on top of my Instant Pot and has a glass lid so I can see what’s happening to my food while air frying.
Equipment Needed to Make Air Fryer Fruit Pies
Below are some suggestions for the equipment you will need to make these strawberry pastries. I love this adjustable rolling pin because it takes the guesswork out of rolling out dough to a certain thickness. You will need a round biscuit cutter to make your shapes (or you can use a round cup). I also love this silicone pastry brush and some tongs to remove anything from the air fryer.
No Air Fryer? No Problem!
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can still make these strawberry turnovers. Assemble the turnovers as described in the recipe card. Preheat the oven to 350 and place parchment paper on a baking sheet. Place the turnovers on the parchment paper and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Tips for Making Hand Pies in the Air Fryer
- When you are crimping these small treats some of the filling will most likely leak out. Don’t panic, as long as most of it stays in the middle and you get a good seal, there will be no issues.
- Don’t be afraid to adjust the amount of sugar in the filling based on how sweet or tart your strawberries are.
- Since you brush the turnovers with egg wash, there is no need to spray them with non-stick spray as you would with other air fryer recipes. But don’t forget to spray the basket so the pies don’t stick to it!
- Preheating the air fryer can make a difference. Preheating will help with even cooking and less wait time in the beginning. If you don’t preheat, the first batch will cook differently than the next, etc.
- I put a piece of foil at the bottom of my pot under the basket to catch any oil or food that falls, it makes clean up so much easier!
- Tongs are also very useful since the air fryer gets HOT! The Mealthy Crisp Lid came with a small pair of tongs which are perfect for pulling out your food. Always be careful and use a utensil because it’s hot in there!
- Remember to always read the instruction manual and follow what your manufacturer recommends.
- Store any leftover pastries in a sealed container in the fridge. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months.

Air Fryer Strawberry Turnovers
Equipment
- Rolling Pin
- 4-5" round biscuit cutter
- foil
- small bowl for eggwash
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- ¾ cup strawberries, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- zest of half a lemon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 egg, beaten
- coarse sugar for sprinkling (I used crystal sprinkles)
Instructions
- Roll out the pie dough on a floured surface to about 1/4" thick. Using a round cookie cutter, cut out as many dough rounds as possible. If needed, take the scraps and form a new ball. Roll out the dough one more time and cut out more rounds until you have 12 total.
- Add the chopped strawberries, sugar, vanilla, lemon zest, and cornstarch to a mixing bowl and gently stir to combine. Spoon 1-2 Tbsp of filling on each round.
- Brush the edges of the rounds with egg wash and fold in half. Use a fork to crimp the edges closed. Use a sharp knife to cut 3 slits in the top of the turnovers. Brush the egg wash on the top of the turnovers and sprinkle with sugar.
- Preheat the air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Place 5-6 turnovers in the basket (make sure there is room around each one for the hot air to circulate) and air fry for 10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Use tongs to remove the pastries and place them on a wire rack or plate to cool. Repeat with remaining pies.
