Why I Love This Recipe
This bright and refreshing Grapefruit Elderflower Margarita is easy to make and super delicious. Add an additional level of flavor to this cocktail with elderflower liqueur, like my Strawberry Elderflower Liqueur Cocktail and my Gin Elderflower Cocktail Recipe, which blends perfectly with grapefruit!
It's fun to branch out and try different margarita flavors like my Blood Orange Margarita and my Dragon Fruit Margarita. That's how I came up with this Grapefruit Elderflower Margarita recipe!
What Does Elderflower Liqueur Taste Like?
Elderflower liqueur has undertones of grapefruit in it already (in my opinion), so I was sure it would work well with grapefruit juice. And, a salted rim on this margarita is the right complement to the sweetness from the elderflower liqueur and the agave syrup.
Key Ingredients Needed for this Cocktail
- 2 oz silver tequila
- ½ oz elderflower liqueur (such as St-Germain)
- ½ oz orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)
- 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz agave syrup (or simple syrup)
How to Make a Grapefruit Margarita
Prepare a cocktail glass with salt on the rim using water or lime juice. Add fresh ice to the glass and a garnish of a grapefruit or lime wedge if desired. Place the rest of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake for 20-30 seconds until nice and cold. Pour into the prepared glass and enjoy immediately. Cheers!
Which Tequila to Use for a Margarita?
I always use a silver or blanco (joven or reposado) tequila for margaritas. These tequilas are only aged for about 2 months and on the younger side so the flavor is stronger, mixes well, and has a smoother taste.
You can also use a less expensive tequila since the flavor is being mixed with other ingredients. Save the expensive stuff for sipping!
What is Elderflower Liqueur?
Elderflower Liqueur is a sweet and floral liqueur that can be enjoyed on its own or in a delicious cocktail. This liqueur is made from elderflowers which have their own unique scent and taste.
The most common brand of elderflower liqueur is St-Germain and it can be found at most liquor stores. It is a little more expensive than some liqueurs, so if you don’t want to spend too much, there are less expensive alternatives available.
